What is Christian Science?
Christian Science is a Bible-based Christian faith centered on the teachings and healing ministry of Christ Jesus. It begins with the understanding that God is infinite Love, entirely good, and always present.
Through prayer and a growing understanding of God, individuals seek healing, spiritual growth, guidance, and a deeper sense of their relationship with Him. Christian Science teaches that the spiritual laws demonstrated by Jesus are timeless and can be understood and practiced today.
Why Is It Called “Christian Science”?
It is Christian because it is founded on the Bible and follows the example of Christ Jesus.
It is called Science because it seeks to understand the spiritual laws of God in a systematic and practical way. Just as scientific conclusions are supported by evidence, the truth of these spiritual laws is demonstrated through healing and transformed lives.
Christ Jesus’ healing work revealed a consistent understanding of God and of man’s relationship to Him. Christian Science teaches that these divine laws can be understood and practiced today, and people around the world continue to find evidence of their effectiveness through prayer and healing.

Who Is Mary Baker Eddy?
Mary Baker Eddy discovered and founded Christian Science and wrote its primary textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures.
A lifelong student of the Bible, she was deeply concerned with questions of suffering and healing. In 1866, after sustaining a serious injury, she turned to the Bible and read an account of one of Christ Jesus’ healings. Through this experience, she gained a new understanding of God and was healed. She learned that God is infinite Love, completely good, and that a clear understanding of this through prayer has the power to heal and transform.
She then devoted years to studying the Bible in order to understand the spiritual basis of what had occurred. From that study, she identified dependable spiritual laws underlying Jesus’ healing works and named her discovery Christian Science.
Since then, people around the world have studied and practiced these ideas and have experienced healing, renewal, and transformation through prayer.

Looking for Healing Through Prayer?
Christian Science practitioners devote their full time to helping others through prayer. They have witnessed evidence of God’s care in their own lives and in the lives of those they support. Practitioners are available to support people through prayer who are seeking healing, guidance, comfort, or a clearer understanding of God.
Christian Science treatment is specific prayer based on the healing method demonstrated by Christ Jesus. It includes faith in God, a spiritual understanding of His nature, and unselfed love. A practitioner helps an individual apply these spiritual ideas to the particular need at hand. This ministry is available to anyone, whether or not they are a member of a Christian Science church.
